You are not worthless, you are not a failure, and you are not a loser. That voice saying you are is just your depression trying to trick you.

You are not worthless, you are not a failure, and you are not a loser. That voice saying you are is just your depression trying to trick you.

The negative thoughts and voices we hear when we’re at our worst can impact our mental health and life negatively. If we give those voices of depression any attention our self-esteem also pays the price. I remember many times when I felt worthless, a failure, and a loser. While feeling this low I also felt as if my life meant nothing and I somehow let everyone around me down. Keeping these negative thoughts around makes our depression worse.

Ignoring negative thoughts and voices is not as easy as it sounds. When we experience negative thoughts such as being worthless, failure, or loser, it’s most likely due to where we are in our life’s journey. We as individuals can set high standards or have a plan for where we should be at certain stages in life. During our initial planning, we don’t plan for setbacks. Who would, right? No one sets out to either fail or have bad luck come their way. We also made decisions that seemed to be the right ones but ultimately became a bad decision. However, that is life and we must learn to move on from bad moments.

Everyone has setbacks at some point in their life. Some of us may have more setbacks or bad luck but, we must learn not to allow our depression to get the best of us. We also need to understand that where we are in life because of circumstances does not determine who we are.

Whenever I feel or hear negative thoughts about myself I try to think about the positives in my life. The positives don’t have to be big, something small is a good start. Everyone should have at least one positive thing in their life that they can be proud of. For me listening to music slows down negative thoughts or blocks them completely. Giving your mind and brain a different activity is sometimes enough to shut off the negative voices.

Giving in to negative thoughts only allows depression to win. We may have to live with depression but, we don’t have to let it control our life.
